Two young men have died after a Surrey road crash involving three Seat Leons on the A246 near East Clandon.
Emergency services were called to Epsom Road shortly after 11pm following the multi-vehicle collision, which happened near Clandon Wood Nature Reserve outside Guildford.
Surrey Police said the driver of a white Seat Leon, a man in his late teens, and his passenger, a man in his early 20s, suffered fatal injuries. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The force said the victims’ next of kin have been informed. The collision involved a white, a black and a grey Seat Leon.
Three arrested after Surrey road crash
A 22-year-old man from Woking, a 21-year-old woman from Guildford and a 19-year-old man from Guildford have been arrested.
All three remain in police custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. No further details about the circumstances leading to the crash have been released.
Epsom Road, which forms part of the A246, remains closed while officers investigate. Police are appealing for witnesses who were in the area between 10.50pm and 11pm, as well as anyone with dashcam footage.
Anyone who may have seen the vehicles or captured the incident has been asked to contact Surrey Police.
Other fatal crashes overnight
The Surrey road crash was one of several serious incidents reported on the UK’s roads overnight.
Several people died in a separate crash on the A66 in Cleveland, North Yorkshire, after a police pursuit. The Independent Office for Police Conduct has opened an investigation because a pursuit was involved.
In Kent, the M20 was closed between junctions 4 and 6 at Aylesford after another overnight collision. The motorway remained shut into the afternoon following a serious crash at about 3.20am.
Kent Police said a teenage girl died after being struck by vehicles, including a Ford Transit van and a Vauxhall Corsa. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incidents left road closures and investigations continuing in different parts of the country. In Surrey, officers are concentrating on establishing what happened before the three Seat Leons collided on Epsom Road.
Police have not identified the two men who died. Their ages have been described as a man in his late teens and a man in his early 20s, and their families have been notified.
The Surrey road crash investigation remains active, with the closure on the A246 in place while evidence is gathered and officers make further inquiries.
