Listeria symptoms and vulnerability
The food standards watchdog said symptoms caused by Listeria Monocytogenes can be similar to flu and include a high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.
In rare cases, Listeria Monocytogenes infection can be more severe and cause serious complications such as meningitis.
The Food Standards Agency said pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old, people over 65 years of age and people with weakened immune systems are more vulnerable to Listeria infections.
The NHS warns that most Listeria infections occur after eating ready-to-eat foods. Raw or cured deli foods can be particularly prone to the bacteria.
