Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been reported as describing accusations that Israel committed genocide as “the biggest lie of the century” during an address to the UN General Assembly in New York.
Dozens of delegates were seen booing and walking out as Netanyahu took the podium, according to Metro News. He reportedly told any delegates who remained and whom he called “moral cowards” to leave the hall.
Netanyahu defends Israel’s military actions
Netanyahu defended Israel’s military actions, saying that attacking Iran had been “one of the easiest decisions” he had ever made. He also insisted that Israel had no choice but to win.
He thanked US President Donald Trump, calling him Israel’s “greatest partner”. Netanyahu said the two had worked together to launch the war against Iran “to save civilization”.
Addressing the genocide accusations, Netanyahu said Israel “didn’t commit genocide” and had instead prevented genocide. He also described the accusation as “the biggest lie of the century”.
Abbas accuses Israel of a colonial plan
Netanyahu’s address came shortly after Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel of pursuing a “malicious colonial plan” aimed at driving Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank.
The competing claims were made during addresses connected with the UN General Assembly, amid visible opposition from dozens of delegates as Netanyahu began speaking.
