The Kremlin has vowed to destroy Warsaw if Poland enters a conflict with Russia, while Nikolai Patrushev has threatened to eradicate the Polish state if war with NATO breaks out.

Patrushev also said that Russia would use its entire arsenal of forces and means if Poland entered military action against it. He said Warsaw would cease to exist within two or three days.

His remarks were reported in an interview with Russian newspaper Argumenty i Fakty.

Sikorski says NATO could defeat Russia

Polish foreign minister Radosław Sikorski said NATO could defeat Russia quite quickly if Moscow attacked the alliance.

Speaking at the annual Yalta European Strategy conference in Kyiv, Sikorski said that if Russia attacked NATO and the alliance took its gloves off, he thought NATO would defeat Russia quite quickly.

Sikorski said NATO had overwhelming airpower superiority over Vladimir Putin’s army, citing 2,500 military aircraft at the alliance’s disposal.

Patrushev described Sikorski’s remarks as an amateurish assessment of Russia’s military might. He also said Russia was not using its full potential in its war against Ukraine.

Moscow reassurances and drone accusations

Patrushev reiterated reassurances from Moscow that Vladimir Putin had no intention of going to war with Europe.

Germany, Denmark, the UK and Poland have accused Russia of using drones for sabotage, arson and surveillance.

A drone rigged with explosives and an unknown substance was found next to a Ukrainian cargo plane in Leipzig in August.

Denmark confirmed on Tuesday that one of its air force helicopters was fired on with flares while conducting surveillance of a Russian frigate in the Baltic Sea.

A NATO fighter jet was also called in overnight to shoot down a drone in Lithuanian airspace, although the origin of the weapon had not been confirmed.
