Christian Brueckner has started writing a book and approached at least one professional writer to help craft and translate it, according to insiders.
Brueckner reportedly believes the book could earn him a seven-figure sum. The Mirror reports that the amount he would actually receive would be much more modest.
Brueckner remains uncharged in Madeleine McCann investigation
German prosecutors named Brueckner as the prime suspect in the Madeleine McCann case in June 2020. Prosecutors have said they believe he abducted and killed Madeleine, but he has not been charged with any offence relating to the investigation.
Brueckner was released from prison on September 17 last year after serving a seven-year sentence for raping an elderly pensioner in Praia da Luz in 2005. Praia da Luz was also the resort where Madeleine disappeared.
Reported release conditions and extradition obstacle
The Mirror reports that Brueckner is living in fenced-off container accommodation in northern Germany under 24-hour surveillance. He must wear an ankle tag for four more years and faces recall to prison if he breaches his release conditions.
In May, the Metropolitan Police was reported to be pushing for Brueckner to be extradited to the UK to stand trial at the Old Bailey. However, Germany’s constitution prevents the extradition of German citizens to non-EU countries after Brexit, according to the report.
